ROUTE 2 ROUTER

Until few years ago, having a personal computer was a big thing. New expertise, games, office functions coming in, it became bigger and the access to internet totally changed. Today, computers have become an essential part of everyone’s lives and every home has more than a single computer. In the beginning era of the growth of computers and the internet, a bunch of wires acted as a medium to connect the telephone line and the computer. The problem faced due to this medium of internet connection was that only a single computer could be attached to one desktop or a laptop. Also, it was not possible for the internet service providers to provide access to multiple connections to each single user if they required an internet connection to more than one computer. This problem was solved by routers in the year 1972. These small devices allow its users an access to the same connection for internet on various computers and laptops at the same time. A router is a tool comes under electronics items that catch signals on a PC network. It concludes where the indications have to go. Each signal received is described a data packet which encloses address info that is used to deflect signals properly.

Today, these have become a necessity for the people who use internet at homes and offices and are available in various shapes and sizes the most common being the wireless one having a 2 sided co-axial cable around it, uses the connection from the telephone line and are linked to the computer through a wire and the other computers can also be plugged in the same router because there are multiple ports in the same router. The other most common router is the wireless network model. Various devices such as gaming consoles, laptops etc. can be attached to it by setting up a connection within in the router and the computer through its IP address.

BE(A)WARE

Internet has made world a small place where everyone knows everyone else, goods and services are bought and sold online, people interact with other people through social networking sites, etc. the internet has brought new scamming ways along with a greater and cheaper right to use to information. Today, a new upcoming service of the internet is the availability of online teachers. These tutors teach everything as per the requirements of the user. But there are chances of theft when people attempt to contact these online tutors.

The tutors post their ads on various research tools like Google, Bing, Craigslist. When they receive an email regarding the same from a client, the resumes are forwarded to the employers. On receiving the resumes, the prospective parents reply through emails talking about their child’s education, schooling, and location etc. generally they have a niece, son, nephew, daughter who will be residing in the same area as the tutor and needs tutoring for a few months. They even agree on a certain fee. But a strange thing about the whole process is that when these tutors receive cheque from their employers, the amount on the same is much higher than actually agreed upon. The employers then also ask to get the cheques en-cashed and send the balance amount to their children for their expenses, nanny’s salary, etc. so that the tutoring sessions can be started.

The account holder’s name on these cheques is generally of the person whose account has been stolen. The major advantage to the scammers is that on the discovery of the scam by the banks, the banks will attempt to recover the funds. But since the scammers names will nowhere be listed, there are very rare chances of them getting caught. It is the tutor who will be asked to refund the money back to the bank.

Computer Safety all the way

Computers are been used in every aspect of a person’s life, whether it’s for work related tasks or just for playing games, it has established a out of the ordinary space for itself. It is frequently used for online data transactions and other such searches or downloading as well.

With this advantage come a disadvantage of virus and some malwares as well. A virus can be described as a computer program which infects the computer and copies itself to disrupt the functioning of the computer. It can transmit and affect through various ways such as e-mails, attachments, infected CDs, or a downloaded file. Thus, we have to protect our system from these kinds of destructive agents which create some or the other trouble in the working of the computer.
few suggestions and advices to guard your computer from these kinds of problems can be as follows:

The best preventive measure is to always have an antivirus software program and maintain it up to the date to safeguard the computer. Downloads from any unidentified source should be avoided and if it’s important, it should always be scanned before using.  Make sure that when you are downloading programs like FileZilla and xvid codec, that you are always doing so from a reputable source.

Always scan an e mail attachment before opening it and delete the same if it is from an unidentified source. Be cautious while downloading the files from .EXE, .VBS and even a picture as well from an unfamiliar source as it can damage and harm the computer.

The firewall should always be enabled whenever browsing the web.

Secure the important data and information in the D drive, so that even if virus infects the system, it will first attack the operating system, i.e. the C drive, so your data will be secured in the D drive. Also keep a backup for important files in external disks or online storage space.

If these measures are adopted in isolation or in groups there is some level of security guaranteed.

TECHNOLOGY BOON OR BANE

Humans have always had a worship and rejection bond with machinery. The worship and respect comes from the conveniences and benefits provided by the technology such as home appliances, cellular phones, and the internet. These benefits have greatly helped in improving the living status of its users, the common man. But as we know nothing is perfect, there are some disadvantages attached to the excess use of technology.

Authors of science fiction are among the first few people who raised a question about the excessive usage and dependence on technology. In 2001, C.Clake, in his book A Space Odyssey, created one of the most iconic evil robot characters: HAL who was sent on the mission to a Jupiter’s moon. For any technological failure, human error is the only reason. No machine can be developed or work on its own in absence of human element. In the story also, HAL considered human as the major threat to success of the mission. So in order avoid any error, the robot started murdering the crew members. The main human character identified HAL as the evil robot and disabled the machine to peacefully complete the mission.

The book raised the question of the viability of dependence of humans on machines. Is it right? Is it wrong? It made humans think practically and logically about the possible consequences of relying on gadgets created by mankind without respecting and understanding the value of humankind itself. For example, children have reduced outdoor games because of numerous gaming options available online. Their minds have become destructive and aggressive because of playing destructive games on the net. In the same manner every age group is getting affected in positive as well as negative manner because of improvement in technology. Thus a proper balance needs to be maintained so the disadvantages are overshadowed by the advantages of using technology.

FLY CREATIVE FLYERS

There are various ways by which a company or an organisation can make awareness about its product or service and ultimately make a sale. These various promotional strategies are advertising on social media, internet sites, televisions, and even by distributing flyers. Flyers are a single page leaflet. They are made in different sizes in accordance with the requirements of the concerned party and their budget. Although, flyers are a cheap way of advertising and are regarded as the most direct form of reaching the customers, there is a limit to its usage.

Flyers allow marketers a chance to show their creative side and make it a fun activity. Designing a flyer requires choosing the paper colour of the page and the font, its size, the number of flyers required, design of the flyer, an attractive heading, pictures and graphics to be put in, and various discounts and offers for the customers etc.One important thing that should be kept in mind while creating an ad for the public is that, the ad should be attractive and to the point. It should not contain extra information that is not relevant because it will bring an element of disinterest in the customers and they might not refer to the ad ever again.

After deciding on these matters, comes the most important step. The step of contacting the printing agency that would print the flyer as per your conveniences. Today internet also serves as an option where in flyers can be made online by mixing and matching various styles available on the particular sites. After the required flyer is made a request can be sent to the online printing company along with the details regarding the size, number, contact details and due date for the delivery of the same. These can also be published online on various search engines, social networking sites, mails etc.

Game maniac

The world for many has totally changed in the recent years with the arrival of gaming. Everyone in his/her life wants to be someone who is like a hero to them and the idea of gaming provides the same for all individual.

People who are not socially active or are underestimated by others seem to be the most participative ones in online gaming. Gaming creates their own virtual and imaginary world of which they are the superheroes. The recent scenario has provided a great fan following for gaming and most specifically online gaming. It has shifted the focus of many from their social lives and made their lifestyle less active.

Today people spend huge amounts of money and time for these games and often tend to drop the track of themselves and their habitual society. But, just the way a coin has two sides, gaming has its positives as well as negatives. Some say if played in the defined time-frame, games help children to concentrate, increase focus and even boost up their creativity level in case of certain games. By gaming they are not isolating themselves from the world but are interacting with different characters. Gaming has made the experience look like a costume party where everyone is invited but they are not allowed to talk or touch each other. It is like a perpetual world. And on the other side, if addicted, games associate with themselves aggressiveness in the people who play it more than just a game.

Since its beginning, the gaming industry is undergoing a dynamic change wherein the games are modified and developed in accordance with the new and changed expectations of its users. Games are both a boon and a bane to the society because of its technological advancement and excessive addiction to it respectively.

Internet and Communication

Internet is a small word which comprises the whole world in it. Its growth is such that more or less every category, every section can be dealt through it. Internet proves to be a one stop destination for all our needs and wants. It has benefited the consumer in such a way that their burden has reduced. Internet supports a range of characteristics ranging from business, entertainment, learning and other such amazing tools.
Internet has inculcated a new form of lifestyle for the people living in this age. They do not have to wait for anything now and all things are available with lot of options as well. But, today due to increased services of the internet, the quality and quantity of shared experiences that the Medias like the television, radio etc provided, had reduced to very low levels.

Earlier, people used to meet others whether it was for fun activities, partying, playing or for diverse offerings they had to make for each other, but internet has change it all in the span of few years. People used to join base ball clubs, watch world cups together, collected collectibles and shared their experiences and knowledge with one another. But internet, by providing data and information just a click away, has made people’s lives easier and isolated them from their communities. Socializing meant interacting with others in parties, meetings, get together, family functions, etc, this trend has also shifted from socializing by meeting to socializing on social networking sites which serve to connect to people all over the world without actually meeting them.

A community learns, matures and lives as one single component. Community develops communication among the people who comprise it. The evolution and spread of internet has diminished this basic element of community i.e. communication.

Today, overall essence of social, physical, emotional, and cultural environment of a community has been taken over by the new community called internet.

Evil Robots or Evil Man

A snowy day in Carle Park west of the Urbana H...

Man has always had a love hate relationship with technology. The love comes from the convenience created by inventions such as the internet, the telephone or television. While the benefits of technology have improved the standard of living of millions many fear that man’s addiction to technology will be the eventual undoing of humanity.

Science fiction authors have been some of the first to raise the question of the potential destruct nature of reliance on machines. Arthur C. Clarke created perhaps the most iconic of the evil robot characters in his book 2001: A Space Odyssey. HAL the robot was created in Urbana, Il and implanted on a space craft to assist a crew on a vital mission to a moon of Jupiter. In the story, man has been contacted by aliens and a manned space mission is sent to meet with the visitors. HAL considers the mission to be far too important to allow unreliable elements to jeopardize it. So HAL does the only logical thing and attempt to eliminate anything that could cause the mission to fail.

Human error is the only thing that the computer can envision threatening the mission, so the computer begins to systematically murder the crew of the ship. Most are killed through suffocation while in hibernation. Others are killed in more creative ways such as being sent into space without a lifeline. The main character Dave is able to recognize that HAL has turned on his creators and is able to disable the robot and complete the mission.

The questions raised by the book and movie remain unanswered. Will the machines that mankind has created to improve the standards of living be the eventually undoing of human life? The question itself is flawed because the machines were created and programmed by man. HAL might have been the murderer in 2001, but as a creation of man the computer embodied human fears and failings.
